The psoas muscle is one of the most important muscle in the back. Tightness of that muscle contributes to sacroiliac dysfunction and back pain.

This exercise is done down on one knee. The bottom part of the front leg should be straight up and down, and the upper part of the back leg should also be straight up and down. Raise shoulders up to the ceiling. Roll the pelvis forward. (Do NOT arch the back.) It is done more as a pelvic thrust. Hold the stretch for 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times on each leg. Ideal would be to do this exercise twice daily.

This is an alternate way to do this exercise for patients who cannot kneel. Do it on the edge of the bed. The side that you are stretching is on the bed, the other leg hangs off and touches the floor. Push the knee down into the bed while pushing up with your arms. Hold for 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times on each side. Ideal would be to repeat this exercise twice daily.
